Meeting Time

 

We like the idea of a regular "meeting" where the colonists stop what they're doing and get together to check in. Like a weekly sort of thing, or less/more depending on how long our daily cycle is. 

This could be a good time for relationship-building interactions, setting/modifying goals and priorities, letting colonists pipe up with their own ideas (wouldn't that be cool if we could get them to have their own ideas that didn't suck??) and making other decisions... I'm sure stuff will come up.

Maybe they send you down on a parachute/balloon thing.

Canyon II

There are so many potential things to make here.

I find myself, when doing these sketches, having thoughts of like, "Oh wait, I'd need a larder to put these mushrooms in, that should probably go in between the farm and the hearth, I could excavate the--oh wait, this is a drawing, never mind." That's probably a good sign.

It'd be nice if there was a way to keep pretty trees around while still being able to use wood. Maybe they grow super duper fast.

How do biomes change? That might be a Later Question.

Canyon Dwellers


You're on this planet/in this place where the surface is unlivable for some reason, but down in these big shafts/canyons, you can survive and build.
  • Side-on colony builder.
  • Not platforming though. 
    • Mostly give orders to colonists 
    • (Would it break things or be fun to directly control them in some cases though?)
  • Fluid and gas management!
    • How do you get water to go where you want it and not where you don't?
    • Ventilation for smoke?
    • Maybe even light management if we want to be silly
  • Be thoughtful in how you lay everything out.
  • Also obviously the colonists have lots of personality and relationships and cutscenes where you make choices about them. :P
    • Maybe we do that thing with the character arcs and goals
  • How dangerous is it?
    • We're not really excited about traditional combat.
    • Environmental threats
      • bad rain from holes
      • mold
      • maybe bad creatures
        • but you don't just gang up and hit them with swords, maybe there could be a more puzzley way to deal with it.
    • Maybe people can die
      • But probably not from like, starvation because that always sucks
      • Death would be a big sad event

Ultimate goal - change something fundamental about this place so that the surface is livable.
