Last time, we leaned pretty heavily on "naturey-magically things that had been sitting out for a long time." Spirits, shrines, tombs, statues, ruins. It's such a pleasant place to get content from. You don't have to have everything planned out ahead of time, you can add lore and mechanics at your leisure, or not.
A world that's been lived in (at some point) just has way more interesting stuff to interact with.
